This bestselling novel tells the story of a nine-year-old boy called Bruno growing up during World War II in Berlin. After a visit by Adolf Hitler, Bruno’s father is promoted to Commandant, and the family has to move to Auschwitz, where from the house he can see a camp. Bruno has no idea about what is currently happening in his country and in the camp on the other side of the fence. One day, Bruno explores the strange fence and meets a Jewish boy named Shmuel who, like the other people on that side, wears a uniform of striped pyjamas. Through the eyes of innocence, this book tells a very important and touching story of this moment in history.
